To drink tea with food or after food! That is the question. Many people think drinking tea with food is good and many think it is unhealthy. Well what to do then?

It is both good and bad to have tea with your food. Depends on how you look at it and what you drink.

Drinking tea during or right after a meal can help you with your digestive health. The antioxidants present in teas stimulate the production of saliva, bile, and gastric juices; which then in turn helps the digestive system digest the food better.

Green tea and other herbal teas like ginger tea or peppermint are most beneficial compare to black tea. Drinking green tea or herbal tea increases the activity of the digestive enzyme, pepsin. This enzyme then helps breakdown the dietary proteins in the stomach. Drinking tea during or right after food can also help with indigestion.

Those are some of the pros of having tea during/after meals; however, there are cons to it too.

Drinking tea with food or right after food can hinder the absorption of vitamins, especially iron. It is recommended to consume vitamin rich foods if you plan on having tea during your meal. People with the deficiency of iron or other vitamins should avoid having tea with their meals, so their bodies have the time to absorb all the nutrients without any hindrance.

There you go. Now that you know pros and cons of the having tea with your meal, you can decide for yourself what is best for you.

Until next time, take care and have a cup of tea, it’ll do you good ;).
